They say, “A healthy mind resides in a healthy body!” And for a healthy body; it is important to focus on correct lifestyle and feeding habits. If you are busy looking for ways to improve your grades; increasing your mental alertness is always a priority. And it is a truth that eating certain food items can help you improve your focus, retention capacity and mental sharpness. We bring to you a list of 7 food items that can help you study and get better grades:
1.Fish
The high concentration of Omega-3 fatty acids in most varieties makes fish an ideal food to score better grades. These fatty acids are very essential to proper neural function and helps sharpen brain reflexes. So, considering it ability to positively affect your brain health, fish is definitely something that should be a part of your diet if you want to improve your brain power.
2.Whole grains
Consumption of refined carbs like bread or pasta is not only detrimental to physical health; but also can be the reason behind mental lethargy. It is whole grains that have an entirely different effect on brain functioning and can lead to enhanced memory functioning. So, munch upon whole grain breads, crackers and pasta while you do your studying for quick energy boost and enhanced brain performance.
3.Dark Chocolate
Now, this one happens to be a personal favorite of ours! Dark chocolate feeds the brain by enhancing memory cells and increasing blood flow to the brain which in turn magnifies alertness and clarity levels. There are many varieties available in market; but the darker ones, especially the ones with lesser sugar content, work wonders for the brain.
4.Spinach
There is a reason why ‘POPEYE –The Sailor Man’; a popular comic character gained super natural powers from spinach. It wasn’t just some wild imagination of the guy who created the famed comic character, but the fact that spinach indeed works great both for brain and brawn. High levels of Folic acid boost brain powers and can even reverse memory loss. So, this is a power snack you definitely don’t want to skip.
5.Onions
Onions have long been famous for their magical abilities to improve memory and focus thanks to the compounds Anthocyanin and Quercetin present in them. Red onions, in particular serve as a great source of these brain function enhancing components and have been revered in the Eastern Cultures over the centuries for the property to boost brain function. So, adding onion to your diet sounds like a pretty good idea, if you want to improve the way your brain works.
6.Nuts
Almonds. Walnuts. Pistachios. You name it and we have it on the list. All of these nuts contain essential fatty acids, helping your brain to perform at its best. They also contain iron; which increases oxygen supply to the brain increasing its ability to retain information. As an added benefit, fat in the nuts is stored in the form of unsaturated fat and hence, serves as a tremendous source of energy. So, if you want to improve your grades, pop in at least a few nuts early each morning and brace yourselves to put your best foot forward.
7.Berries
Next time you think of ways to improve your test scores; grab a handful of berries in all colours and much on the yummy wonders as you dig deep into your books. From the crazily coloured blueberries, raspberries, cranberries etc to the humble grapes; all are known to significantly affect brain function. The flavourful munchies help reduce levels of toxins in the bloodstream; and also contain antioxidants and phytonutrients which enhance neural activity by increasing blood flow to the brain.
Adding the above items to your diet is an easy way to power boost your study sessions. They help your brain focus faster and function effectively. So, have a balanced meal, increase your water intake and cut down on the caffeine and try these for better brain functioning. It will help you focus your energy and score better grades. Effective studying is not about mugging facts but also about taking care of your body; especially your brain. Include the above items in your diet; and watch your brains to wonders when you finally settle down to study.
